Adulteration of Senegal (Gum Arabic) Investigated by NMR Spectroscopy
1H and 13C NMR are ideal for the analysis of gum arabic adulteration with lower grade materials. In the examples below we show the contrasting spectra of acacia senegal compared to acaica seyal, acacia polycantha and combretum.
Adulteration can be readily observed and quantified by analyzing relative intensities of methyl resonances in the 13C spectrum.
